KidSafe AI YouTube Filter ยท Last updated: June 2026
Summary: KidSafe AI does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data to us or any third party other than the Anthropic API (which processes video titles for content screening). All your settings, including your password and API key, are stored locally on your device only.
1. What data we collect
KidSafe AI does not collect any personal information. We have no servers, no accounts, no analytics, and no telemetry.
2. What data is stored locally
The following is stored in your browser's local extension storage (chrome.storage.local) on your device only:
- A SHA-256 hash of your parent password (the plain-text password is never stored)
- Your Anthropic API key (stored locally, never transmitted to us)
- Your chosen age level setting
- Filter on/off state and thumbnail screening preference
- A local cache of AI content decisions (video titles and their allow/block result)
- Aggregate counters: number of videos screened and blocked (no titles or personal data)
This data never leaves your device except as described in Section 3.
3. Anthropic API usage
When the filter is active, KidSafe AI sends YouTube video titles and channel names to the Anthropic API (api.anthropic.com) for content classification. This is the only external data transmission the extension performs.
- Data sent: video title text and channel name only
- Data NOT sent: your identity, browsing history, URL, watch history, or any personal information
- The API call uses your own Anthropic API key โ Anthropic's own privacy policy governs how they handle API request data
- Thumbnail images (if you enable thumbnail screening) are converted to base64 locally and sent to Anthropic for analysis, then immediately discarded
4. Children's privacy
KidSafe AI is a tool designed to protect children. The extension does not collect any information about children. No data about the child's viewing habits, watch history, or usage is collected or transmitted.
